Camera Shy? I don't think so!

"Alfalfa"

  • Alfalfa

Alfalfa is a favorite of mine. But then I'm pretty fickle when it comes to my sheep. Alfalfa is a four year old wether. He is a Lincoln x California Variegated Mutant cross and has the most sweet disposition. As a wether, his focus is on growing gorgeous fleeces and he indeed excels at this. The CVM characteristics show in the varied colors that are seen in his fleece. I describe his fleece color as a medium gray heather. This heathery quality gives yarns spun from his wool great depth of color. Even if I had never met Alfalfa I would have loved his fleece. But, I'm really glad he's one of my flock members.

"Chance"

  • Chance

O.K., so here’s another favorite guy. Chance was a "bummer" lamb. He was one of triplets. The ewe decided she would take care of two lambs, but three...no way! So, Chance’s start was a little rough. His mom kept butting him away, not letting him nurse. She was pretty serious about this and even dislocated his shoulder. At this point I became his surrogate mom and he was raised on a bucket. Bucket lambs become very close to the shepherd and Chance is a really friendly guy. As a wether he just concentrates on growing a great fleece. Who wouldn’t love his beautiful badger face?

"Lizzie"

  • Lizzie

Lizzie is the oldest ewe in my flock and has always produced a soft, white fleece. Although she doesn’t jump and romp with the lambs anymore she does occasionally get into a playful match of head butting. Lizzie always keeps track of me when I’m working in the barn. I often catch her watching me when I’m doing chores.
